Q & A #3

How do those of you with kids find the time to work out? I am struggling with the idea of hauling 2 kids everywhere. It is such a huge amount of work to get two kids ready for the gym daycare (everyone need a snack and drink). I really like doing yoga and would do videos at home (which is not as fun as a class with other participants, but still), but I can't get enough quiet time in my day. I make Leah have rest time in her room everyday for 45 minutes. I can't squeeze another minute out of that. Trust me I have tried. But once I leave her, I usually have one or two things to do before I can do yoga. Quieting my mind at that point is hard and then I don't have the time to do a whole series.

I am considering registering for the Charlotte Adventure Boot Camp for the 5:30am session 3 days a week. I have never been a morning person, but Mike will still be here and I won't have to even think about the kids. i just want to see results!

Well, my kids are older than yours (6 1/2 and 4 1/2) so they are definitely easier now then they were before. I went a lot when my son was in school so I only had to take my daughter to the daycare. I would go when my husband gets home from work (someitmes we go as a family), or early in the morning, or on weekend mornings. I try to keep it to a minimum 1 hour when I have the kids and make it is as simple as possible (feed them before I leave, you could change diapers, do bottles, etc.)
I found that once I made it part of my routine that it became much less stressful and very easy for me and the kids. Now my day doesn't seem complete without it.
It's definitely hard to get started especially with little ones, and very easy to make excuses (I was the queen of that :). You just have to start making the changes and it will become easier :) Don't be too hard on yourself either. If I miss a day then I make it up with a weekend class/run. Also, try to start with a goal of 2 or 3 times a week and increase it if you find more time. I hope that helps :) Good luck!

I had another thought...I think it's very hard for moms to balance everything, and we think we should. You just have to choose the things that work best for you and your family. I work part-time, I'm room mom in both kids classes, and I choose to work out. With all that it leaves no time for reading (which I love), or sewing, or anything else other than spending time with my family :)
As far as results go, I used to be very discouraged by that also! I finally figured out that I had to make drastic changes to my eating habits as well as working out. Working out by itself will help but will take longer to see results. Well, that's how my body works yours may be different :) Good luck again!

I have to schedule it in when Addam can watch the boys...I've been taking an evening class when I can. So I usually do it in the evening when Addam can watch them.

I can sneak in crunches when the boys are playing but any cardio has to wait until I have some help!

They have that boot camp thing here in Palm Harbor too. It's a bit pricey though. I say go for it but I am not a morning person either! I cant' imagine getting up to go work out at 5:30am! Ugh.

I think you should definitely do the boot camp class! I'm not a morning person either, but it sounds like a great way to get in shape and you have the pressure of a class to help drag your butt outta bed so early :)

Here's how I work in exercise: With running, I either take Ethan in the jogging stroller (which is getting harder now that's it's hotter outside), run on weekends when Kyle can watch him and I'm going to start getting up early during the week to do it before Kyle goes to work - around 4:30 - 5 am. The only way I can stay motivated to run is to register for races :) It's my check-point system.

I also started doing yoga at a studio once a week on a designated night. That way, Kyle knows it's my night to go there and meets me there after work to take Ethan home (it's on his way home, works out well). I will probably try to go once every other weekend as well.

Hope you find something that works for you!

Just thought about this... would both kids ride in your bike trailer? That would be a great way to get exercise with your kids :)

You should get the Wii Fit! I have only heard awesome things about it!

I cancelled my gym membership because I really don't like having to drive somewhere just to get a workout. I would rather run through the neighborhood at night listening to my ipod and not have to wait for someone to get off the eliptical. I also started doing crunches and sit ups in bed while I'm watching TV. I have to keep going up and down or I can't see the TV screen!

You know, Jason and I had a big discussion tonight about how he wants to keep playing sports two nights a week after the baby is born. At first I fought him on it, but then I remembered this post of yours. So I negotiated with him that if he plays sports Wednesday and Thursday nights and leaves me alone with the two kids those nights, then I get to go out Tuesday and Friday nights and leave him alone with the kids. And he's all for it! So hopefully I'll be good and take advantage of working out those evenings once my body is ready to handle working out again. Thanks!

I don't. I tried running at lunch, but it got boring. I dont think these questions really apply to me though since i'm not a stay at home parent. :)
