Mopping dilemma

So while I have found the secret to keeping a clean house, I have yet to find the secret to mopping floors. I currently use the Swiffer WetJet. But I hate the way the solution leaves the floors sticky. I have tried using the mop with the sponge head, but once it gets dirty it just tracks more dirt around the kitchen. I have wanted a Hoover Floormate for a while now. Anyone out there own one? What do you think? If not, what do you use to mop vinyl? What about hardwood?

For hardwoods, it doesn't get better than Bona. It doesn't leave a residue and makes them look like they were put in the day before. I just did mine today - I do them every two weeks.

The best mopping solution that I've found for vinyl is the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser mop (http://www.mrcleantools.com/cart/details.php?id=152&cat=7). My vinyl actually looks clean after I mop it (unlike most of the other mopping solutions I've tried). Haven't tried the Hoover Floormate though. Would love to hear from someone who has.

It's called Bona. The stuff is freaking incredible. It is a bit much in the beginning, but it's worth it. It makes the hardwoods look brand new and they feel so slick and clean. I sound like a commercial. I got the mop at a janitor supply place, b/c the Bona mop was too expensive. You buy the duster-type thingie that adheres to the bottom of the mop, and then every so often you throw it in the washer (the duster thingie that velcroes on). Like I say: a bit more expensive but if you like walking barefoot on your hardwoods and feeling like they are incredibly new, buy it. http://www.restorationhardware.com/rh/catalog/product/product.jsp?productId=prod1416012&navAction=jump&navCount=4
You can also get it at smaller hardware stores for cheaper.

I have a hoover steam vac that also converts to do wood and tile floors, and it's AWESOME. It's pretty loud, but leaves the floors perfect. Also shampoos carpet really well.

The swiffer wet is what I use in once in a while and it sounds like you may be using just a tiny bit too much fluid. There's a really fine line between too much and not enough with those.

I'm gonna probably try the Bona though too instead of swiffer wet next time.

Just my 2 cents!

The cleanest our vinyl floors in our kitchen have looked is when Addam cleaned them with vinegar. I think he mixed vinegar, water and a little dish soap. Old school sometimes works best.

We don't have hard wood, so no clue there!

I just stumbled upon your blog and thought I would add my 2 cents...

We have hardwood and vinyl. I mop every Saturday with hot water and vinegar. It's cheap to if you buy it from Wal-Mart in a huge jug...about 3$ and it can last a long time. A hard word carpenter guy told me once that vinegar and water was the best solution to use on the floor and it doesn’t add build up like some other hardwood floor cleaners.
